Gear For The Trip

I have no idea if we packed light compared to other riders, but we took the bare essentials for a month+ trip away.

In terms of clothes, aside from what we were wearing, we took a spare pair of trousers, some jocks, socks, light shoes and a t-shirt.

We seperated the gear into sections and put them in a zip locked plastic bag.  A fantastic way to keep organised and minimise space (you can squeeze all the air out).

Helmets On The Plane

We had no problem getting the helmets on the plane (flew with QANTAS, US Airlines Airlines & Delta).

We had the helmets in our carry-on and waltzed on through each time (couldn’t find anything specific in the QANTAS details about not taking a helmet on the plane).

Bike Luggage Capacity

The Electra Glide has tons of luggage space with side panniers and the top box.  We had more than enough space.

We always packed the Road Atlas last in the top box so that it was there for easy reference.  Everything else in the top box was in the brown bag.

The panniers (which didn’t come off) held gear in the plastic bags.  So it took just seconds to unpack the bike each time.
